Famous tombs for All Souls




While most catholics remember their deceased on All Saints, the official memorial day is Nov.2nd. For this reason I looked up some pics of reknown artists deceasesed and buried in Paris. Enjoy the beauty of their tombs. Laters Pilgrim...and please comment, my last post was oviously worth nothing.

I'm not particularly religious, however I must admit visiting a cemetery on All Saints Day is a powerful experience.
I agree with you, tombs can be fascinating.

I would like to visit Jean Daniel Cadinot's tomb in Paris someday. His films are my favorite, he had a great photographic eye.
I will take a moment to remember Cadinot with fondness on this All Saints Day, his is dearly missed.

I didn’t know Böcklin was dying at Paris (I’m pretty sure he survived). But you’ve collected some impressing pictures here. I’ve missed some pictures from your journey.

Interesting selection of tombs. And the painting: on closer inspection it looks as if it could be the one that was the inspiration for Rachmaninoff's "Isle of the Dead," which I mentioned — http://naturgesetz-music.blogspot.com/2009/10/bso-20091010.html — in my music blog 3 1/2 weeks ago. It certainly has the elements mentioned in the program notes for the concert.

The Père Lachaise is a beautiful cemetery. I was lucky to visit it with a very knowing man who showed me most of the interesting tombs belonging to famous musicians, writers and politicians which, on my own, I would have never found. Gros bisous, M.
